Somewhere in New York City you’ll
find one Leo Lipsztein, also known as Aphasia.
“Walk softly, but carry a big stick…”
would be an appropriate way to articulate his presence
in dance music to this point. Djing in and around the
city for the better part of 6 years, Leo is a co-founder
of Intuition NYC, a small group responsible for some
off the beaten path loft parties specializing in not-so-common
sounds. Leo’s music has worked some dance
floors through a handful of releases …most notably
“Semi-Hetero Sapiens” on
Low
Pressings with partner Jas
of Hooj Choons / Yoshitoshi
fame.
This year Leo has once again quietly
yielded his musical stick over the dance floor and its
his most powerful swing to date. “Acapulco”
first grabbed Three’s ears (and about 1000 others)
when Sean Cusick dropped the track during their Second-Hand
Satellites throwdown at Space (Balance Promote
Party / WMC 2003). Since then its been described as
a modern day “Chime” by
Orbital
and with due respect for that classic…we wouldn’t
disagree! With only a handful of DJ’s in possession,
it’s become one of our most sought after tracks
to date. Now included on James Zabiela’s
“Sound
in Motion” mix CD it has peaked the
curiosity of listeners worldwide. While poised go down
as tune of the summer…it rings the bells of a
future classic.
The AA cut of “Say Hello”
sees those sun filled sounds give way to nightfall.
Its ever mechanical rhythms and intoxicated voices have
just the right amount of quirks to shake the most seasoned
dance floors. Fueled by an 80’s sounding bassline that’s
more New Wave than Synth-Pop, this track is set to ride
a wave of praise all its own. With a remix package forthcoming
on Hooj Choons --- “Say Hello” in its original form
will be exclusive to Hallucination Limited.
